how to reduce weight-Tips

Many severely obese people resort to bariatric surgery these days. Bariatric surgery is one of the most popular surgeries, which helps obese people lose weight. Unlike most weight loss surgeries, bariatric surgery does not involve removal of fatty tissues from the body. It is a procedure that reduces the size of the stomach with a gastric band or removes a portion of the stomach that results in the interruption of the digestive system and therefore, restricts the amount of food a patient can eat. Apart from knowing about the actual procedure, a potentially obese person should learn a lot more about bariatric surgery before considering it. Here, are a few things one must know about bariatric surgery.

Qualification: Many people would want to opt for this procedure to lose weight but doctors only consider people whose weight poses a threat to their life. In order to qualify they have to fall in the severely or morbidly obese category. That means that they have to be at least 45 kgs over their ideal body weight, which is based on their BMI index.

Liquid diet:  After surgery, the patient has to go on a liquid diet. During the first week, the diet will include foods like diluted fruit juices and clear broth, which will then be followed with a blended or pureed sugar free diet for the next two weeks. This liquid diet has to be continued for at least three weeks after they leave the hospital.

Post surgery restrictions: After going through bariatric surgery, the amount of food that you consume at one time will be restricted. Therefore, this restricts the intake of calories during a single sitting. You will be able to digest only half a cup of food at one time.

Weight loss: Once you recover from bariatric surgery, you will quickly notice rapid weight loss. Most people who undergo this surgery will develop lose and flabby skin on their breasts, legs, face and arms over time because of the dramatic weight loss.

Success Rate: Bariatric surgery has a pretty high success rate with about 80 per cent of people losing the desired amount of weight; and most of this weight loss happens in the first year itself.

breast healthy tips

A healthy pair of breasts not only adds to a woman’s beauty but also adds to her self confidence. Taking care of one's breasts on a regular basis will keep a woman’s breasts healthy and reduce her risk of breast cancer, sagging and infections. If you haven’t taken your breast health seriously, here are a few simple habits to follow that will ensure your breasts remain healthy.

Wear the right size bra

Studies show that eight out of ten women wear the wrong size bra and don’t even realise it. Wearing an ill-fitting bra will not only make you feel uncomfortable but can also cause problems like shoulder, arm or back pain.
Did you know that your bra size changes all the time?  Every time you lose or put on weight, your bra size changes. Make sure you regular check your bra size and opt for the right fitting one.

Regular self breast-exams
Any doctor will tell you that the best way to diagnose breast cancer at the earliest is to conduct regular self breast exams. There are no symptoms of breast cancer other than finding a lump in your breast. Every woman must conduct a self exam at least once a month. The best time to do this would be in the shower so that the soap can help your hands glide easily over your skin and if there is a lump you can feel it quickly. The faster you find it, the easier is the treatment.

Applying SPF to your breasts
We can all admit that the idea of applying SPF to our breasts doesn’t come to us easily. But think about it, when you go out in the sun, you apply SPF to other parts of your body that are exposed to the sun, then why skip the breasts? Remember to use a sunscreen on the part of your breast that is exposed to the sun, if you don’t want to risk that part of your body to skin cancer

Do not shave hair on your nipples
Unpleasant strands of hair popping up from the nipple area can be a nightmare to any woman, but do not give in to shaving it off. Shaving might seem like a quicker and less painful technique then plucking but it is not good for your breast health. Using a razor over your sensitive areola skin could get your hair follicles infected. Do not risk it, just pluck it out instead.

Stop yo-yo dieting
Yo-yo diets often cause rapid weight gain and weight loss in a very small timespan. This is a bad idea for your breast health because the constant weight change causes them to shrink and grow. Instead, simply opt for a healthy diet plan that allows you to lose weight steadily and does not put pressure on your breasts.

Regular sex is important for mental and physical wellbeing and all round health tips

Sex tips

Today we're giving you more reasons to have sex regularly...even though something tells us you don't need them. But it doesn't hurt to know that sex has several health benefits. Adds to the motivation, don't you think? It’s a circle of life - Being healthy and staying fit, leads to better sex. Regular sex is important for mental and physical wellbeing and all round health. Apart from the obvious physical benefits that sex provides such as the fact that it’s a great workout, we’re talking about the ancillary benefits of having regular sex. Here they are...

Improve your stress response – and your blood pressure. Sex certainly has the power to take the edge off. The process of arousal and orgasm lets loose an elixir of natural painkillers and relaxers. Research has shown that a partner’s touch – whether curling up under the sheets or simply passing in the hall – initiates the release of oxytocin, which in turn can
lower blood pressure and heart rate. The effect goes for so-called cardiovascular reactivity, the response of the cardiovascular system to stress.

Cuts the risk of cardiac – related deaths. The unique closeness of sex can have more consequential impact in the cardiovascular realm. In a 20-year long
study, researchers followed more than 900 men and found that having sex twice or more a week decreased a subject’s risk for a fatal heart attack – by more than 50%.

Get some pain relief. Sex can offer a temporary respite especially when it comes to pain. Both arousal and orgasm trigger the production of oxytocin, which then initiates a sensational rush of endorphins and corticosteroids – both fairly potent painkillers.

Steady your cycle. Physicians prescribe the birth control pill left and right to women who have irregular menstrual cycles. Regular sex might present a more enjoyable alternative for that particular purpose. Women who have sex with male partners once a week or more, research has shown, are more likely to experience consistent menstrual cycles and (as a result) have fewer fertility problems than women who had sex less often or abstained entirely.

Frequent sex with the same partner over several months or more can also “prime” a woman’s body for a healthy, full term pregnancy. Research at the University of Adelaide in South Australia said that women who engaged in frequent sexual activity with their committed partners, had higher rates of conception and fewer incidences of miscarriage, preeclampsia, and high blood pressure.

sexual techniques tips

A reduced sex drive can be very frustrating and a number of problems, from depression to physical disorders, could be to blame. However, if you are bothered that decreased libido is affecting your relationship, there is some good news for you. With some basic lifestyle changes and sexual techniques you can overcome these problems easily. At the same time, it is equally important to know the main factors that affect your libido. From physiological to psychological factors, here are some common sex-drive killer

how to survey more years in human life

Umbilical cord blood is blood that remains in the placenta and in the attached umbilical cord after childbirth. Umbilical cord blood contains potentially lifesaving cells called “stem cells” that can be cryopreserved for later use in medical therapies, such as stem cell transplants or new emerging therapies.

The use of umbilical cord blood stem cells has increased significantly in the past 20 years and many patients have benefited from these stem cells. To date, umbilical cord blood stem cells have been used to treat nearly 80 diseases, including some cancers, blood disorders, and immune deficiencies with over 50,000 successful transplants worldwide.

Cord blood collection happens after the umbilical cord has been cut and is extracted from the one end of the cord. It is usually done within ten minutes of giving birth. A certified gynecologist or paramedic will collect umbilical cord blood as per standard medical procedure at the time of delivery. This cord blood will be collected in an umbilical cord blood collection kit, which will be transported to laboratory for long term cryopreservation.

Five Reasons to Store Umbilical Cord Blood and Cord Tissue:

Younger and multi-potent: Umbilical cord blood stem cells are young and unexposed to external environmental factors and have the potency to regenerate indefinitely and differentiate into many different types of cells in the human body. These stem cells have been successfully used to treat more than 80 diseases and disorders in children and adults. As per clinical trial database, 3,565 globally and 31 clinical trials in India are ongoing on application of stem cell therapy in the treatment of various diseases.

Life threatening blood disorders: It is estimated that about 27 million babies are born with blood disorders annually. Almost 10,000 to 15,000 infants with Thalassemia and sickle cell disease are born every year in India. Almost 1,00,000 children suffered from thalassaemia major in India in 2008 and the number is increasing rapidly (WHO Report 2008). Such patients need routine blood transfusions during crisis episodes throughout their life span.

Difficulty in finding a suitable donor: Despite 13 million registered volunteer donors presently accessible worldwide, asian patients needing HLA matched donors are unable to get one. About 5 out of 10 caucasians who need stem cell transplant may find a perfect match. This drops to about 1 out of 10 people for the Asian population especially Indian patients, mostly because their HLA types are more diverse. Lack of public stem cell banks with a large database makes it more difficult to get matched samples.

Complex diseases are a major public health concern:Scientists predict that there would be an increase in complex diseases and rare disorders in India. The burden of complex diseases is expected to further increase owing to an increase in life expectancy, demographic transitions, genetic and environmental risk factors. Cancer accounts for about 7% of deaths in India. Nearly 80% of the burden of diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases is now concentrated in developing countries such as India.

Family history as risk factors: Family history is one of the strong influencing factors for developing life threatening diseases and disorders. Common health problems that run in the family include alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, asthma, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke, which can occur at an earlier age (10 to 20 years before most people get the disease). For such families, the banking of cord blood would be similar to investing in a secured “healthfund” as cord blood and cord tissue are a rich reserve of hematopoietic and mesenchymal stem cells. Many international committees recommend the preservation of cord blood and tissue in families with a known history of disease or disorders.

running health tips

Outdoor runs will not only give your body a good cardio workout but will also give you an opportunity to breathe in fresh air. So don’t let the chilly weather this winter put you off your regular runs. In fact,  winter runs may have a little more advantage as you tend to work out harder to beat the cold. Here are a few essential tips to remember when you go out running this winter..

Skip the extra layers
Many people have admitted to wearing extra layers when they go out as it is cold. But as much as you’re tempted to begin off warm and cozy, abstain from it. When you go running, you tend to sweat and start feeling hot. Wearing extra layers will make running uncomfortable and you may eventually land up shedding your extra layers of clothing.

Start off warm
It may be very cold when you begin your run and since we have already recommended skipping on extra layers of clothes, you may wonder how to beat the cold when you start off right? The ideal way to do it is to warm yourself in front of a heater or wear freshly ironed clothes, so that you start off warm. Once you start running, your body will heat up automatically and the cold won’t bother you.

Winter friendly gear
Your running gear won’t be the same in winter as on any other day. You have to choose a pair of shoes with better grip on the soles so that you have enough traction and won’t slip on the icy surface. You may also want shoes with fabric that is extra water resistant on slushy surfaces.

It is also important to decide your run wear depending on the intensity of the weather and your surroundings. Choosing synthetic fabric is a good idea as it is lightweight and does not trap moisture. Non synthetic material can trap moisture, which results in uncomfortable wet clothes, especially if you sweat.

Skincare
Don’t forget to apply some winter care lotion to your skin and some lip balm to avoid dry skin and lips when you go out in the cold, because when you run, your skin is exposed to the sun, so use a good sunscreen as well.

Safety measures
It’s always good to follow some extra safety measure when you go running in winter.

·         Remember your warm up exercises before your leave.

·         Wear reflective clothing if you’re running on the road so that drivers can spot you.

·         Running with a buddy provides extra safety and precaution.

·         Asthma patients should be extra careful about their decision to run in winter; and if they do, they should remember to carry their inhaler.

·         Just as an extra precautionary measure, inform your family about the route you take and carry your cell phone and identification when you go out running.
